President Bola Ahmed Tinubu inaugurated the High-Level African Counter-Terrorism meeting on Monday at the Office of the National Security Adviser (ONSA) in Abuja. This meeting, organized by Nigeria with support from the United Nations Office of Counter-Terrorism (UNOCT), aims to address the evolving threat of terrorism in Africa. The summit’s theme is ‘Strengthening Regional Cooperation and Institution Building to Address the Evolving Threat of Terrorism’.
The summit seeks to enhance multilateral counter-terrorism cooperation, emphasizing African-led and African-owned solutions. It provides a platform to assess the severity of terrorism in Africa and agree on strategic priorities and measures to combat it.
Special guests include Vladimir Voronkov, Under-Secretary-General of the United Nations Office of Counter-Terrorism, and Amina Mohammed, Deputy Secretary-General of the United Nations. Also attending are Presidents Patrice Talo of Benin, Nana Akufo-Addo of Ghana, and Faure Gnassingbe of Togo. Nigeria’s Foreign Affairs Minister, Yusuf Tugga, and other dignitaries from Mauritius and the African Union Commission are present as well.
